Conquering New Year's Resolutions: A Personalized Guide to Success

As the New Year unfolds, the air is abuzz with resolutions and grand aspirations. Yet, setting goals is one thing, staying committed is another challenge altogether. How can you ensure that this year's resolutions don't lose steam by February? Let's dive into creating a personalized plan for success.

Starting with a Strategy: Turning resolutions into reality requires individual goals. Begin by creating a benchmark – where are you now, and where do you want to go - what does success look like for you? What areas of your health (body, mind, and spirit) are most Important? How can you ensure your goals are realistic and achievable? Research suggests that specificity increases the likelihood of success. I can assist you with these by helping you discover your health’s baseline.

Break it Down: Once your goals are set, break them into manageable steps, providing opportunities to celebrate achievements along the way. Acknowledge that setbacks are part of the journey; the key is to acknowledge and get back on track.

The SMART Way: Ever heard of SMART goals? Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals add clarity, track progress, and set milestones. Studies show that utilizing SMART goals increases the likelihood of success.

Build Habits Gradually: Discipline is the secret to goal adherence. Start by building positive habits gradually, keeping them small and manageable. As each behavior becomes ingrained, gradually increase complexity. What new habits do you want to introduce this year that can better your overall health and wellness?

Accountability Matters: Share your goals with someone – a friend, family member, colleague, or health & wellness practitioner. Accountability not only creates a sense of responsibility but also provides needed support. Studies show individuals are 65% more likely to meet a goal after committing to another person. For example, one client of mine regularly shares photos with me via text of the progress she is making with her diet changes, and I support her with suggestions and encouragement.

Mindfulness for the Win: Incorporate mindfulness practices like meditation and breathwork. Research suggests that mindfulness improves self-regulation and decision-making, contributing to better goal adherence. Learning breathing techniques from a Certified Breathwork Instructor can enhance overall well-being by promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and improving mental focus and clarity. I am happy to share some of my favorite meditation teachers so feel free to reach out.

As you embark on your journey to conquer this year's resolutions, remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Craft a unique strategy, set realistic goals, and incorporate discipline-enhancing techniques. Be patient, loving, and forgiving with yourself; each day brings a new opportunity for a fresh start.

This year, let's not just set goals – let's conquer them. You've got this.
